Frankenstein (1910)
Silent film (no sound)
Edison’s one-reel version of Mary Shelley’s novel, and the earliest known film of the story. A young student discovers the secret of life and brings a creature into being in a smoking vat of chemicals, then goes home, shaken, to marry his sweetheart. The creature follows him there, and the ending turns on a memorable trick with a mirror.
