The Great Train Robbery (1903)
Silent film (no sound)
Outlaws tie up a railroad telegraph operator, board a train at a water tower and rob its express car and passengers before escaping on horseback. Once the operator is freed, a posse rides after them to a shootout in the woods. Edwin S. Porter’s western for Edison includes a famous shot of an outlaw firing straight at the audience.
